The Wineries Of Carneros And the Entire Wine Country

Despite the fact that Carneros Wineries may be found in both Southern Napa County and Sonoma County, the area has always maintained its own distinct identity.

The Medoc is a wine-growing region in southwestern France that is often regarded as among the best in the world. It is encircled by wooded areas and the expansive estuary of the Gironde river. The Medoc wine producing area is located along the Medoc Peninsula for around 45 miles, and it is just a stone’s throw away from the great city of Bordeaux. Awaiting you are vineyards that have been meticulously maintained and are steeped in a history of grape farming. This history has resulted in the creation of several vintage red Medoc-Bordeaux wines throughout the course of the previous few centuries.

Our travels start at the town of Blanquefort, which is located to the north of Bordeaux and serves as the entrance to the Medoc wine production area. From this point, the D2 autoroute will go north, slicing through the woodland and marshes that are on the way to the Gironde Estuary. The terrain has some moderate crests and troughs, but on the whole it is very level, providing vistas of land that is covered with vines as far as the eye can see in every direction. The environment itself is quite beautiful, with its luxuriant green vines contrasted against lines of sandy colored soils and light gravels, all of which are set against a deep blue sky.

The part of the Medoc that is designated as the Haute-Medoc appellation is, by a significant margin, the district with the most vineyard land. It extends in a nearly continuous line from Blanquefort to a point almost halfway between Vertheuil and St. Germain d’Esteuil, and it is the region that is responsible for the production of the widest variety of wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carmen’, Merlot Noir, and Petit Verdot grape varietals are all full-bodied, vibrant reds that acquire a distinctive fragrance with age. Grape varieties include Petit Verdot.

The first of six communes in the Medoc that are known for producing world-class wines is Margaux, which encompasses the surrounding areas of Labarde, Arsac, and Ligondras. It was given its name in honor of the Château in Margaux, which is renowned across the world for producing exceptional wines. A little further up the D2 highway, the communes of Moulis and Listrac-Medoc are passed by on the east side of the road before the remarkable vineyards of the communes of St. Juilien and Pauillac are met close to the water’s edge.

The route from Pauillac leads you inwards towards Lesparre-Medoc, which is located in the center of the Medoc regional appellation, which is also referred to simply as Medoc. These are the vineyards in the Medoc wine producing area that are located the furthest to the north, and among them are several chilly, dark vaults where visitors may try some excellent vintage wines.

While there are many direct flights inside Europe, passengers traveling across the Atlantic may be required to make a connection at the international airport in Paris. Car rentals may be reserved in advance at the Bordeaux airport (as well as at the Paris airport) using the website http://www.your-carhire.com. From the Bordeaux airport, vehicles will need to go north on the Bordeaux ring road to junction 7.
